What is Douyin
Douyin, the leading short video platform in China, reached a monthly active user base of 755 million in 2024. Launched in September 2016, it quickly became China's most popular social media platform, reaching 100 million users that same year. Its owner, ByteDance, also launched the international version of Douyin, known as TikTok, in 2017. Although the two platforms are very similar, they are in fact separate entities. In March 2018, Douyin introduced a new brand slogan: "Record the Good Life." By July of the same year, it had achieved an astonishing peak of over 500 million monthly active users.
Douyin's robust content ecosystem and precise algorithmic recommendations give it a significant edge in the digital entertainment field, with users spending at least 7 more hours on the platform each month. Beyond entertainment, Douyin offers everything needed for daily life, from shopping and ticket purchasing, to learning, research, and acquiring scientific knowledge—Douyin seems to do it all. Douyin also collaborates with celebrities from various industries, inviting them to join and connect with ordinary people through short videos.
How to Use Douyin
If you are outside of China, you can access the Douyin website on Android devices at www.douyin.com, download the Douyin APK, and install it. You can then browse and watch Douyin videos that interest you. However, to interact by liking or commenting, you need to register and log in with a Douyin account using your phone number. It's quite simple:
- Navigate to the 'Me' (我) tab found at the bottom right of the screen.
- Input your mobile phone number in the designated field.
- Press the 'Send code' (验证并登录) button to receive a verification code via SMS.
4. Type the received verification code into the provided space.
5. Finally, tap the pink 'Login' (登录) button to finalize the registration and access your account.
